The suspects fired shots at security company personnel and the police before fleeing the scene in a bronze Citroën and a white Mazda.
Police and private security companies responded to an armed robbery at an electronics store in the Menlyn Maine shopping centre on Saturday evening.
According to Capt. Augustinah Selepe of the Tshwane Police, eight male and two female suspects are alleged to have been involved in the robbery.
“Suspects entered the store pretending to be customers.
“They then began pointing firearms at the staff members and ordered them to move to the canteen.
“After demanding the safe keys, the suspects took one of the staff members into the store room with them to open the safe,” she said.
“The suspects were using two cars, a bronze Citroen and a white Mazda,” added Selepe.
According to a statement by CSI security, a call for backup at the Incredible Connection store was received at around 18:00.
The police’s tactical team and K9 unit, as well as Brinant security, Fidelity ADT security and Bull security were called to the scene.
However, no injuries were reported.
A case of armed robbery is being investigated.
