• Governor not medically fit, alleges APC
• PDP: he will return this week
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State chapter, yesterday stirred fresh controversy over the overseas trip of Governor Ademola Adeleke and his absence in the state for over 30 days.
The Nation recalled that Adeleke was absent during his one year anniversary on November 27, 2023 amid rumours that he travelled out of the country for knee surgery. However, his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said his principal travelled out to shop for investors, while Adeleke in a radio interview claimed he went on vacation to rest.
APC in a statement by its state Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, raised concern over absence of Adeleke, stressing that “Osun State people deserve inalienable right to know the whereabouts and condition of their governor, whose actions and inactions have become matters of interest as a public officer.”
Lawal said: “It was the first time in the history of the state that a sitting governor will be absent at his first year anniversary since Osun was created. Adeleke is on leave and he is not medically fit.”
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) through its Chairman, Sunday Bisi, reacting to the concern of APC, disclosed that Governor Adeleke would return to the state this week.
He said: “Adeleke’s vacation was publicly announced by his spokesman. The vacation is a working one during which the governor will rest and also meet partners for the development of the state.
“The governor is hale and hearty. He is prepared to further lead the team for the development of Osun State. He has used the vacation to relax, re-energise and recharge, as he starts his second year in office.”
The governor will arrive this week to deliver more dividends of democracy. APC is just chasing shadows.”
